It's Aquatic Invasive Species Awareness Week - Arm yourself with knowledge at a Landing Blitz event!
July 01, 2019
July 1, 2019
Michigan's annual Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Awareness Week kicked off with a proclamation from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Sunday and runs June 30 to July 7, 2019. The week will be highlighted by the 6th AIS Landing Blitz, an educational event held at boat launches across the state and region.
What is an invasive species? It's a plant, animal, or even a microbe that is not native to an area and causes harm. More than 180 non-native species have made their way to the waters of the Great Lakes region, and some have caused harm to our environment or economy.
Get involved this Aquatic Invasive Species Awareness week by attending a Landing Blitz event to learn how to prevent the spread of invasives. Boaters can also get the details online on how to clean, drain, and dry watercraft when enjoying Michigan's waters.
