2020 By the Numbers -- 995 wastewater samples tested for COVID-19
January 08, 2021
EGLE and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services piloted with local health departments across the state to sample wastewater at 306 different locations for the presence of the COVID-19 virus in human waste streams.
Working with 19 laboratories across the state, EGLE is helping coordinate this testing network, which will provide an early warning system for future coronavirus outbreaks.
This testing network is expected to have processed nearly 4,000 wastewater samples by the end of January 2021.
