EGLE's interactive calendar is designed to provide timely information on decisions before the Director, proposed settlements of contested cases, administrative rules promulgation, public hearings, meetings and comment deadlines, and environmental conferences, workshops and training programs.
The Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides all persons (except persons incarcerated in correctional facilities) with access to public records of public bodies. Requests to inspect or receive public records from EGLE must be in writing and describe the requested records with enough detail to enable the department to identify and locate the requested records. Some records are exempt from disclosure under the FOIA or another statute and thus will not be provided. A fee may be charged to process your request. Please note that many records are available that do not require a formal FOIA request.

Brad Pagratis, director of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's (EGLE) Information Management Division (IMD) described the division as "small but mighty," during a recent online brownbag lunch for EGLE staff.
Pagratis joined EGLE in July 2019, noting that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he's worked from home longer than he did at his Constitution Hall office in Lansing. Since joining EGLE, he's worked to modernize information technology systems used by the department and the public.
The IMD staff working on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests processed 15,000 requests last year, he notes. It's an "unsung group" that is working to improve both transparency and trust with the public.
Other behind-the-scenes work has involved formulating department-wide policies, coordinating audits, and determining what technology in a hybrid work environment will look like.
More public-facing work has involved the geographic information system (GIS) and Web work that has launched dashboards for EGLE's grants and loans and FOIA, and story maps that communicate about the department's work.
Coming soon will be a new Web presence that will migrate content from one platform to another. It's a big shift that will focus on being more "customer-centric" and is expected to be launched by August.
