EGLE household drug take-back map improved
September 28, 2021
Whether looking for a convenient place to safely dispose of medications or getting the word out about a medication collection, the EGLE Drug Take Back Map is the resource for you. It is easy to find collection locations and even easier to use with recent enhancements in the look and feel of the map. Find the map on your phone or computer by typing Michigan.gov/EGLEDrugDisposal or "EGLE Drug Disposal" in any browser.
Finding a take back location
To find a take back location, just enter your zip code in the search bar in the top left corner of the map and press enter. The interactive map zooms to your location showing nearby collection locations on the map. Zoom out if you do not see any immediately. Click on the locations displayed to view a pop-up with location information, what materials are collected, contact information, and website information, if available. With the recent enhancements, the map can also be viewed in a table that can be downloaded.
Marketing a take back location
To market a takeback location, it is as simple as completing a form found on the map instructions. Once the data is submitted, EGLE reviews and verifies the data in coordination with partner state and federal agencies, then adds verified collection details to the map.
Helping community members find safe drug disposal options
Along with the map, EGLE offers a map overview video, a drug disposal video, and print-ready resources that others are encouraged to share with patients and customers to help them learn how to safely dispose of unwanted household medications. To make this map more accessible, EGLE has also made the data behind the map viewable in an interactive table format. Visitors can sort the table by its various fields. Visit EGLE's Open Data Portal to access this table and download the data in additional formats!
