Drinking Water Concern System marks first year
October 26, 2021
The Office of the Clean Water Public Advocate launched its Drinking Water Concern System one year ago. The web-based platform tracks and responds to public concerns about drinking water quality.
In the past year, Michigan residents submitted 140 concerns via the system or the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's (EGLE) call center. Concerns have ranged from leaks, to permitting to appearance and taste.
The majority of the concerns received to date involve a community water supply and are handled by EGLE staff. EGLE staff follow up by contacting the concerned resident, the water supply, and any other relevant parties to ensure the resident's concern is addressed. Any concerns that are received by the system that are not under EGLE's purview are forwarded to the correct state or local agency.
Available in English, Spanish and Arabic, the system can be accessed from computers, mobile phones and tablets.
Michigan residents with concerns about their community water supplier or their own private wells may use the online system to raise concerns.
As residents complete the online form, they are provided with helpful tips and resources to address common drinking water questions based on the concern category selected.
