EGLE's interactive calendar is designed to provide timely information on decisions before the Director, proposed settlements of contested cases, administrative rules promulgation, public hearings, meetings and comment deadlines, and environmental conferences, workshops and training programs.
The Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides all persons (except persons incarcerated in correctional facilities) with access to public records of public bodies. Requests to inspect or receive public records from EGLE must be in writing and describe the requested records with enough detail to enable the department to identify and locate the requested records. Some records are exempt from disclosure under the FOIA or another statute and thus will not be provided. A fee may be charged to process your request. Please note that many records are available that do not require a formal FOIA request.

(As part of Environmental Health Week, MI Environment is highlighting EGLE's Michigan Environmental Health and Drinking Water Information System - which will help increase communication and transparency around the state's drinking water supply systems. Environmental Health Week is dedicated to the improvement of public health through management of the environment and preventive measures to safeguard public health.)
EGLE recently launched Release 4 of the Michigan Environmental Health and Drinking Water information System (MiEHDWIS). MiEHDWIS is a multi-year project to modernize many of EGLE's Drinking Water and Environmental Health Division's existing permitting, licensing, and compliance information systems into one web-based application.
For the public, the result should be more timely exchanges of information between regulators and local water suppliers, and more transparency in providing data and information about drinking water supplies.
Goals of MiEHDWIS include streamlining communication between Michigan's public drinking water suppliers and EGLE, increasing data transparency, and facilitating collaboration between EGLE and local health department staff.
Currently, campground owners, septage haulers, and swimming pool owners and operators create their own user account to upload applications and supporting documents. By utilizing this web-based application, processing time has been greatly reduced and no more lost paperwork!
Local Health Departments can also upload documents and inspection reports, as well as submit request to the Onsite Wastewater Management program which will improve communications and response times to allow EGLE to further prioritize activities that directly impact environmental and public health.
EGLE staff have a customizable Dashboard view in MiEHDWIS. This provides staff a real time summary of the status of permit and compliance activities, highlighting priority activities and deadlines.
In future MiEHDWIS releases, functionality will be available to additional regulated entities, such as the Community and Noncommunity Public Water Supply programs.
