The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is partnering with 5 Lakes Energy to offer webinars and technical assistance to support local and tribal governments who seek to access federal funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) (also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act [IIJA]) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund - National Clean Investment Fund IRA Competitive grants to fund several national clean financing institutions that can provide accessible, affordable financing for tens of thousands of clean technology projects across the country. Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund - Clean Communities Investment Center IRA Competitive grants to fund several non-profits to build the clean financing capacity of local community lenders working in low-income and disadvantaged communities. Tribal Climate Resilience Annual Awards Program N/A Funding for tribes for planning or implementation projects that address the unique impacts of climate change affecting vulnerable tribal communities. U.S. Dept. of Interior $120 million Closes 10/13/2023
The Green and Resilient Retrofit Program - Leading Edge IRA Grants and loans for eligible HUD-assisted multifamily properties with ambitious plans involving carbon reduction, renewable energy generation, use of building materials with lower embodied carbon, and resilience goals through achieving an advanced green certification. U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) $400 million Closes 10/31/2023
High Energy Cost Grants N/A Competitive grants to assist communities with extremely high energy costs (i.e., annual residential energy costs that exceed 275% national average). Funds may be used for renewable energy generation, energy efficiency and conservation, transmission, or distribution.

Transformational Habitat Restoration and Coastal Resilience Grants BIL/IRA Competitive grants to support transformational habitat restoration projects that restore marine, estuarine, coastal, or Great Lakes ecosystems, using approaches that enhance community and ecosystem resilience to climate hazards. Coastal Habitat Restoration and Resilience Grants for Tribes and Underserved Communities BIL/IRA Competitive grants to support community-driven coastal habitat restoration and climate resilience projects and build the capacity of tribes and underserved communities to more fully participate in restoration activities. Climate-Ready Workforce for Coastal States and Territories Competition IRA Competitive grants and technical assistance for communities in coastal and Great Lakes states so they may form partnerships that train workers and place them into jobs that enhance climate resilience. Climate Pollution Reduction – Implementation Grants IRA Competitive grants to implement projects identified in plans developed with Climate Pollution Reduction Planning grants. Buildings Upgrade Prize N/A Prizes to accelerate widespread, equitable energy efficiency and building electrification upgrades. Community-based organizations, local and tribal governments, building owners, utilities, nonprofit organizations, and other organizations are encouraged to team up and apply.
