LANSING, Mich. – As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, the Michigan Agency for Energy (MAE) encourages utility customers to include preparations for electric outages that may occur during and after storms.

“Along with other preparations for severe weather, Michigan utility customers can benefit now by becoming familiar with the safe use of portable generators,” noted Valerie Brader, MAE executive director. “Doing so can prevent illness or death from carbon monoxide poisoning. The Michigan Agency for Energy’s utility tips sheet provides important information on ways to protect yourself and your family from this deadly gas that cannot be seen, smelled or tasted. Additional tips for surviving power outages cover what do to before, during and after a power outage.”
