LANSING, Mich. – With a severe weather on its way, the Michigan Agency for Energy (MAE), today provided a number of tips on preparing for electrical outages and what to do if power is lost.

“Preparing for a power outage before it happens is of the utmost importance,” said Anne Armstrong Cusack, MAE’s executive director. “We urge utility customers to prepare for the storm and respond to any outages in a safe manner to protect themselves and their families.”

MAE has available three consumer tips sheets on storm-related issues: how to prepare for a power outage and what to do if electric power is lost; safely using supplemental home heating sources; and tips for safe use of a portable generator.

Other useful information on how to stay safe before, during and after snowstorms or other cold weather events is available on the Ready.gov website.
