Release #: 46
FLINT, Mich. – Student athletes from Michigan State University will once again partner with Schupan Recycling, Republic Services and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Michigan Community Service Commission to aid in recycling and water distribution efforts in Flint on Saturday, Feb. 27. These efforts will include collection of empty water bottles, distribution of recycling bags and information on how to participate in curbside recycling.
Recycling collection and water distribution will take place Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Northwest Shopping Center, 2629 West Pierson Road, Flint, MI 48504 (corner of Clio Road and W. Pierson Road).
“Our first recycling event was so successful that the MSU students wanted to come back and help again,” said Ginna Holmes, executive director of MCSC. “We are grateful for their contributions, as well as the contributions of Schupan and Republic for donating their recycling services and expertise.”
Residents are asked to bring their empty water bottles to this location. Schupan Recycling will collect the bottles to process for turning into new products. Residents can also sign-up for curbside recycling from Republic Services.
Daily water distribution is ongoing at the Water Resource Sites. When picking up water, residents will be given a recyclable bag, donated by Petoskey Plastics, and instructions on how to recycle their water bottles either curbside or at a Schupan Recycling trailer location.
Recycling trailers are located at fire stations 1, 5 and 8, along with 3008 Airpark Drive S (Comcast) and 4119 North Saginaw (Empowerment Village).
