Flint Residents Prepare for Second Round of Winter Weather

March 1, 2016

Release #: 47

FLINT, Mich. – With a winter storm bearing down on Flint for the second time in a little over a week, Flint residents are encouraged to visit a Water Resource Site to ensure they have enough water supplies.

Light snow fell overnight, but a much stronger storm is on the way. The National Weather Service is forecasting the snowfall will be the heaviest in the Flint area between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., with a total accumulation of 6 to 9 inches. Winds are expected pick up and cause drifting and blowing snow throughout the day on Wednesday.

“This winter storm is going to be at its strongest during the evening commute, so we’re strongly encouraging Flint residents to get out and get what they need ahead of that,” said Capt. Chris A. Kelenske, commander of the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division. “We had some snow this morning and streets are snow covered and slick, so be sure to give yourself ample time as you head out. We have plenty of supplies on hand.”

The Michigan Department of Transportation will be sending in additional crews and equipment to help maintain access to the Water Resource Sites. Filters, cartridges and bottled water will continue to be available at the sites during the severe weather.

Resources can be obtained from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at any of the following locations:

Fire Station #1 (also a water bottle recycling site)
