Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to Michigan Tax TribunalTuesday, April 14, 2015
LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Valerie Lafferty, of Okemos, to the Michigan Tax Tribunal.
The tribunal is an administrative court responsible for hearing tax appeals for several categories of Michigan taxes. Most of the tribunal's appeals involve property taxes, though it also hears business and individual tax disputes.
"Valerie's professional experience in the appraisal and legal fields will be instrumental to the tribunal as it works to resolve tax disputes, I thank her for her willingness to serve" Snyder said.
Lafferty most recently served as chief appraiser for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and previously owned a private law practice. She is a real estate broker, a member of both the American and State Bar Associations, and a charter member of the Michigan Association of Realtors sponsored appraisal group. Lafferty earned a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from Michigan State University, and a master’s degree from Wayne State University. She represents real estate appraisers and replaces Marcus Abood.
Lafferty will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring June 30, 2018. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
