April 4-11, 2018: Mobility Week

WHEREAS, Michigan put the world on wheels more than a century ago and cemented our state as the undisputed automotive capital, and the mobility sector is now driving the evolution of transportation; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan is proud to be the global leader in this arena, with the automotive foundation, talent and intellectual capital, connected vehicle projects, education, research, and development to stay at the forefront of the industry; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan plans to continue as a strong participant in the world economy and help drive mobility development through technological innovation, with the benefit of making transit more accessible to all populations, including those who have been underserved by traditional modes of transport; and,

WHEREAS, the future of transportation is rapidly evolving, and here in Michigan, we are the driver of change. The American Center for Mobility in Ypsilanti will serve as the state-of-the-art global epicenter for testing and development of automated vehicles; and,

WHEREAS, the mobility sector has brought on an incredible convergence between IT and manufacturing and our state needs to have a strong, sustainable pipeline of talent for the highly skilled jobs of today and tomorrow; and,

WHEREAS, Michigan will continue to strive to be a worldwide leader in the transformation of the auto industry as it converges with technology and moves toward highly advanced vehicles;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 4-11, 2018 as Mobility Week in Michigan.
