September 21, 2018: Peace Day

WHEREAS, The United Nations’ 37th annual International Day of Peace invites countries, states, communities and individuals to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace within and among all nations and peoples; and,

WHEREAS, each year, people across the world come together through diverse peace education activities, nonviolent skill building, music, marches, spiritual activities, arts, community events, environmental efforts and intercultural dialogues for the purpose of perpetuating a culture of peace; and,

WHEREAS, this month we raise awareness of the need to continue to expand support and engagement of the development and nurturing of the critical building blocks for peace;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 21, 2018 as Peace Day in Michigan.
