November 15, 2018: Pressure Injury Day

WHEREAS, pressure injuries (bedsores) claim the lives of over 60,000 people each year and cost the United States healthcare system over $11 billion annually. 2.5 million Americans get pressure injuries every year, and over the past 5 years we have seen a disturbing trend of more severe pressure injuries; and,

WHEREAS, prevention will reduce the high incidence of pressure injuries and the substantial pain associated with pressure-related injuries. A high percentage of pressure injuries lead to death; and,

WHEREAS, prevention of pressure injures reduces the financial burden for unnecessary healthcare costs because many pressure injuries are preventable; and,

WHEREAS, on this day we raise awareness of pressure injuries and encourage people throughout the state to learn more about preventative measures;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 15, 2018 as Pressure Injury Prevention Day in Michigan.
