March 2011: Certified Government Financial Manager Month

WHEREAS, the Greater Lansing Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) is a professional organization with approximately 200 active members representing state, federal, municipal and private sector accountants, auditors and financial managers in Michigan; and,

WHEREAS, the Greater Lansing Chapter of the AGA is part of a 15,000 member network located in 99 chapters across the United States and around the world; and,

WHEREAS, Greater Lansing AGA members undeniably represent AGA's mission of advancing government accountability and they continue to make significant advances in professional abilities and service to Michigan citizens, always emphasizing high standards of conduct, honor and character; and,

WHEREAS, the Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) program of AGA demonstrates professionalism and competency by requiring CGFM candidates to have an appropriate educational and employment history, to abide by AGA's Code of Ethics, to pass multiple examinations with results displaying expertise in varied areas of government financial accounting, reporting and budgeting and to continue professional education over the years; and,

WHEREAS, it is during this time Michigan citizens are encouraged to learn more about the career opportunities available for Certified Government Financial Managers and to research their local AGA chapter;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 2011 as Certified Government Financial Manager Month in Michigan.
