April 3 through April 9, 2011: Prosthodontics Awareness Week

WHEREAS, prosthodontics is a dental specialty that encompasses diagnosis, treatment planning, restoration, rehabilitation and maintenance of oral health for patients needing to replace or who have already replaced their natural teeth; and, 

WHEREAS, tooth loss occurs as a result of decay, gum disease, cancer or traumatic injury and it places stress on the mouth and jaw structure, often causing bone to shrink and other painful conditions; and, 

WHEREAS, recognized by the American Dental Association, prosthodontists are dental specialists who obtain two to three years of training beyond dental school in the prevention and treatment of tooth loss; and, 

WHEREAS, we join with the Michigan section of the American College of Prosthodontists to remind Michigan citizens of the importance of oral health care, how to best treat tooth loss and to share the services Michigan prosthodontists provide to improve smiles and lives; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 3 through April 9, 2011 Prosthodontics Awareness Week in Michigan.
