April 2011: Public Health Week

WHEREAS, the Michigan Constitution, Article IV, Section 51 states, "The public health and general welfare of the people of the state are hereby declared to be matters of primary public concern;" and, 

WHEREAS, Michigan's public health system is a spectrum of public and private professionals, organizations and government agencies that are committed to working toward a healthier Michigan; and, 

WHEREAS, Michigan's public health system works tirelessly to research and prevent health disparities, emergencies and disease; and,   

WHEREAS, Public Health Week in Michigan is a time to recognize the contributions of state and local governments, community-based agencies and partnerships, universities and health associations that make the health and well-being of the people of this state a priority each and every day;  

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 10 through April 16, 2011 as Public Health Week in Michigan.
