WHEREAS, since the founding of the first veterinary school in 1761, veterinarians have played an essential role in discovering the causes of numerous diseases that affect our state and nation including salmonellosis, West Nile virus and yellow fever; and,
WHEREAS, veterinarians provide valuable public health service through scientific research and preventative medicine; and,
WHEREAS, proudly, Michigan State University ranks in the top ten best schools for veterinary medicine in our nation; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan offers its sincerest thanks to the veterinarians in our state, and we recognize their dedication to protecting and preserving human and animal health, and promoting the highest standards of science-based, ethical animal welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim 2011 as Veterinary Year in Michigan.
