WHEREAS, Michigan is home to a diverse manufacturing sector that includes transportation, machinery, furniture, computer and electronic products and chemical manufacturing; and,
WHEREAS, manufacturing, along with the mining and utilities industries, remains the largest sector of Michigan's economy, providing approximately 20 percent of Michigan's gross state product; and,
WHEREAS, employing more than 463,000 citizens in our state, the manufacturing industry continues to play a vital role in Michigan's economic success as it did decades ago; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we reflect on Michigan's rich history as a manufacturing state, and we join with the Michigan Manufacturers Association to recognize Michigan's resilient manufacturing workforce;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 9 through May 13, 2011 as Michigan Manufacturing Week.
