WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, rock and roll musician, singer, songwriter and Michigan native Bob Seger has shared his celebrated musical talents with fans all over the world; and,
WHEREAS, born in Dearborn, but later moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, Seger found a love for soulful music at an early age as he was drawn to the sounds of Elvis Presley, Little Richard and James Brown, some of the legendary musicians Seger attributes his musical style to; and,
WHEREAS, Seger began his musical career in the Motor City in 1961-five decades and a few bands later, Seger has sold more than 50 million albums and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004; and,
WHEREAS, a true and positive representation of Michigan, we honor and recognize Bob Seger on this day for his dedication and commitment to music in our state and nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Saturday, May 28, 2011 as Bob Seger Day in Michigan.
