Thursday, June 16, 2011: Traffic Safety Awareness Day

WHEREAS, in 2009, nearly 900 Michigan citizens were killed and more than 70,900 citizens were injured as a result of motor vehicle traffic crashes in our state; and,

 

WHEREAS, the protection and safety of every motorist in Michigan is of utmost importance and the Governor's Traffic Safety Advisory Commission is committed to reducing traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities on Michigan roadways; and,

 

WHEREAS, this commission, originally named the Michigan State Safety Commission, was established on June 16, 1941; for 70 years, the commission has coordinated Michigan's roadway safety efforts and encouraged a collaborative approach to identifying and addressing traffic safety challenges in our state; and,

 

WHEREAS, as we recognize the Governor's Traffic Safety Advisory Commission's 70th year of service, we raise awareness of the vital importance of traffic safety in Michigan, and we encourage all motorists to learn more about safe driving on Michigan roadways; 

  

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Thursday, June 16, 2011 as Traffic Safety Awareness Day in Michigan.
