August 21 and August 22, 2011: American Legion Legacy Run Days

WHEREAS, for more than 90 years, the American Legion and its members have served communities across the United States by mentoring and sponsoring a variety of youth programs and promoting a continued devotion to our nation's service members and veterans; and,

 

WHEREAS, the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund was created for the children who have lost a parent in the fight against terrorism, and since 2004, the fund has awarded 84 scholarships to students across 21 states; and,

 

WHEREAS, the American Legion Legacy Run, established in 2006, is a motorcycle tour through four states that supports this scholarship fund and will pass through Michigan on August 21 and 22, 2011; and,

   

WHEREAS, on these days, we raise awareness of the American Legion Legacy Run and scholarship fund in Michigan, and we join together to remember the ultimate sacrifice our service members have made protecting our country;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, August 21 and Monday, August 22, 2011 as American Legion Legacy Run Days in Michigan.
