September 5 through September 10, 2011: Payroll Week

WHEREAS, through payroll withholdings, citizens across the nation contribute and collect 71.9 percent of U.S. Treasury revenue; and,


WHEREAS, payroll professionals play a key role in the economic health of our state and country by paying into the unemployment insurance system, providing information for child support enforcement and carrying out tax withholding, reporting and depositing; and,


WHEREAS, founded in 1996, National Payroll Week coincides with the celebration of Labor Day to recognize the economic, cultural and social achievements of America's approximately 156 million workers; and,


WHEREAS, during this week, we recognize the partnership among Michigan's workers, businesses and the payroll professionals who pay us; we encourage citizens in our state to gain a better understanding of their paychecks, the payroll withholding system and other payroll-related benefits;


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Monday, September 5 through Saturday, September 10, 2011 as Payroll Week in Michigan.
