September 17 through September 23, 2011: Constitution Week

WHEREAS, September 17, 2011 marks 224 years since the adoption of the United States Constitution, which is the supreme law of our nation and the framework for United States government, states and their citizens; and,

 

WHEREAS, the adoption of this historic document was the result of the Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1787; and,

 

WHEREAS, Constitution Week, first enacted by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 and later officially declared by President George W. Bush in 2002, is a time for citizens of all ages to reflect on the rights, justice and unity the United States Constitution represents for America; 

   

WHEREAS, during this week, we recognize the anniversary of the United States Constitution and we encourage all citizens to continue learning about the rich history and foundations of our country;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Saturday, September 17 through Friday, September 23, 2011 as Constitution Week in Michigan.
