September 19 through September 25, 2011: Pollution Prevention Week

WHEREAS, Michigan's environment and natural resources are important to residents and tourists alike who enjoy touring, biking, swimming, boating, hunting, fishing, and living in this Great Lakes State; and,


WHEREAS, by focusing on pollution prevention, Michigan can become a center for businesses that are more efficient, competitive and pollution-free, and make protecting public health and maintaining Michigan's natural environment a priority; and,


WHEREAS, citizens can prevent pollution by reducing waste, reusing materials and recycling; this will improve our communities and preserve the state's natural resources for future generations; and,


WHEREAS, during this week, we join with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to raise awareness of pollution prevention, and we encourage citizens to learn more about the steps they can take to meet the challenges of maintaining the communities we live in;


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Monday, September 19 through Sunday, September 25, 2011 as Pollution Prevention Week in Michigan.
