Week of September 25, 2011: Non-Profit Week

WHEREAS, Michigan's non-profit sector is a strong economic force that employs approximately 440,000 citizens and generates billions each year in overall economic activity, contributing significantly to the state's economy and to the quality of life for Michigan's citizens; and,  


WHEREAS, the nearly 49,000 non-profit organizations, including 32,000 charitable organizations, in Michigan are committed to serving the educational, cultural, civic, health, religious, human service, recreational, philanthropic, environmental, ethnic and other diverse needs within our state; and,


WHEREAS, the work of charitable organizations is supported and enhanced by the Michigan Nonprofit Association, Council of Michigan Foundations and the Michigan Community Service Commission; and,


WHEREAS, during this week, we raise awareness of and recognize the many and vital contributions made by non-profit organizations throughout Michigan;


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of September 25, 2011 as Non-Profit Week in Michigan.
