November 3, 2011: Michigan Chevrolet Centennial Celebration Day

WHEREAS, Michigan is the birthplace of America's automotive industry and continues to produce more cars and trucks annually than any other state; the automotive industry is the largest sector of Michigan's manufacturing presence; and,


WHEREAS, William C. Durant and Louis Chevrolet established the Chevrolet vehicle brand in Michigan in 1911, and over the past 100 years, Chevrolet has manufactured 200 million cars and trucks that are driven throughout the world; and,


WHEREAS, Chevrolet and its parent company, General Motors (GM), continue to impact Michigan's economy both in manufacturing and research and development as GM's world headquarters are in Detroit, Michigan; Chevrolet and its suppliers also manufacture engines, transmissions and a variety of parts for Chevrolet vehicles in Michigan; and,


WHEREAS, on this day, we join with Chevrolet, Michigan's 152 Chevrolet dealers and their more than 7,400 employees to honor Chevrolet's 100th anniversary; we encourage citizens throughout the state to recognize Chevrolet's significant presence and the economic, social and philanthropic contributions that have enhanced the quality of life for the people of Michigan;


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 3, 2011 as Michigan Chevrolet Centennial Celebration Day.
