February 5 through February 11, 2012: NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards Awareness Week

WHEREAS, since 1997, the National Weather Service offices serving Michigan, in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), have conducted NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards Awareness Week to educate Michigan residents about the potentially life-saving information broadcast during severe weather; and,  

 

WHEREAS, in the event of a hazard, either natural or technological, National Weather Service personnel can interrupt routine weather broadcasts and insert warning messages concerning imminent threats to life and property; and,

 

WHEREAS, these severe weather and hazard alerts also include national emergencies as the National Weather Service maintains strong partnerships with local, state and federal homeland security agencies; and,  

 

WHEREAS, during this week, we join with the National Weather Service offices in Michigan and NOAA to encourage citizens throughout the state to learn more about this alert service that provides instant access to the same weather reports and emergency information that meteorologists and emergency personnel have-information that can save lives;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, February 5 through Saturday, February 11, 2012 as NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards Awareness Week in Michigan.
