March 4 through March 10, 2012: Women in Construction Week

WHEREAS, since 1971, the four Michigan chapters of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) have served as the voice for women in construction in Michigan; and,


WHEREAS, the work accomplished by the Michigan chapters of NAWIC has benefited our great state through community development, education programs and beautification projects, especially in Lansing, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and surrounding communities; and,


WHEREAS, the members of the Michigan chapters of NAWIC unceasingly promote the employment and advancement of women in the construction industry, helping the construction industry remain a driving force of successful development in Michigan; and,


WHEREAS, during this week, we encourage citizens throughout the state to recognize the efforts and contributions of the Michigan chapters of NAWIC and their many dedicated volunteers who serve steadfastly on behalf and in support of women in construction;


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 4 through Saturday, March 10, 2012 as Women in Construction Week in Michigan.
