Wednesday, March 14, 2012: Michigan Agriculture Day

WHEREAS, during the month of March, we recognize and celebrate Michigan's 55,000 farmers and diverse network of processors, wholesalers and retailers that work within our growing food and agriculture sector; and,

 

WHEREAS, contributing $71.3 billion to our state's economy each year, agriculture is Michigan's second largest economic driver and plays a key role in the growth and reinvention of our economy; and,

 

WHEREAS, Michigan's agriculture industry and related businesses employ approximately one million people that make it a priority to provide safe and nutritious food to millions in our state and country; and,

 

WHEREAS, on this day, we recognize Michigan's rich and abundant agriculture industry and we thank those who maintain and support it; we encourage citizens throughout the state to celebrate this day with meals made with a variety of local Michigan ingredients;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, March 14, 2012 as Michigan Agriculture Day.
