April 2012: Jewish Sports Heritage Month

WHEREAS, the state of Michigan recognizes the importance of physical fitness and sports in fostering active and healthy habits for its citizens; and,


WHEREAS, participation in sports develops our mental alertness, enthusiasm and energy, and improves our sense of self-esteem and camaraderie; and,


WHEREAS, the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum honors Jewish sports figures who have distinguished themselves in the field of sports, and serves as a reminder of the court and playing field heroes who emerged as athletic leaders; and,


WHEREAS, during this month, we raise awareness of the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and recognize the hall-of-famers who are from or spent part of their careers in the Great Lakes state; on April 22, 2012, former University of Michigan women's soccer head coach, Debbie Belkin Rademacher, will be inducted as a hall-of-famer, and we extend sincere congratulations; 


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 2012 as Jewish Sports Heritage Month in Michigan.
