April 21 through April 28, 2012: Money Smart Week

WHEREAS, Money Smart Week, created in 2002, encourages and helps consumers learn to better manage their personal finances; and,


WHEREAS, in 2011, Money Smart Week consisted of more than 250 free financial training programs and activities in 13 counties throughout Michigan; and,  


WHEREAS, the financial well-being of individuals is directly linked to the nation's economic progress; improved financial literacy, through financial education and training, promotes individual responsibility, knowledgeable citizenship and stronger communities; and,


WHEREAS, during this week, we join with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, numerous financial institutions, local governments and community organizations to raise awareness of the importance of financial literacy and training for Michigan citizens;  


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Saturday, April 21 through Saturday, April 28, 2012 as Money Smart Week in Michigan.
