June 11 through June 17, 2012: Men's Health Week

WHEREAS, despite advances in medical technology and research, men continue to live an average of five years less than women; and,

 

WHEREAS, some top health concerns for men include heart disease, diabetes and prostate, testicular and colon cancers; and,

 

WHEREAS, on May 31, 1994, President Bill Clinton signed legislation establishing the week ending on Father's Day as National Men's Health Week; and, 

 

WHEREAS, during this week, we raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle for all Michiganders; we join with the Men's Health Network to encourage Michigan men of all ages to take part in regular exercise, preventative health screenings and annual check-ups;   

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Monday, June 11 through Sunday, June 17, 2012 as Men's Health Week in Michigan.
