Friday, July 20, 2012: Public Transit Bus Driver Day

WHEREAS, thousands of Michigan citizens rely on public transit bus drivers to provide safe, efficient and dependable transportation to work, school, shopping centers and various appointments each and every day; and,


WHEREAS, public transit bus drivers serve within a variety of agencies including urban, rural and specialized services transportation systems; and,


WHEREAS, these hard working individuals are well-trained professionals that must obtain a commercial driver's license prior to their transportation service; and,


WHEREAS, on this day, we join with the Michigan Department of Transportation and its many community partners to celebrate the 37th Annual Michigan Small Bus Roadeo; we recognize and thank Michigan's public transit bus drivers for their commitment and dedication to serving Michigan citizens;


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Friday, July 20, 2012 as Public Transit Bus Driver Day in Michigan.
