September 2012: Preparedness Month

WHEREAS, emergencies and disasters can strike at any moment, putting Michigan residents and property in harm's way; and,

 

WHEREAS, emergency preparedness is vital to reducing injury and loss of life in hazardous circumstances; being prepared includes staying informed about potential hazards that could affect the community, developing an emergency plan that includes places to go and who to contact during an emergency, and creating an emergency supply kit containing items that will help individuals and their families survive for at least three days in the event of an emergency; and,

   

WHEREAS, the Michigan State Police, as well as various community agencies including the Michigan Citizen Corps Program, are committed to helping citizens and communities prepare before an emergency strikes; and,

 

WHEREAS, during this month and throughout the year, we join with numerous agencies, nonprofit organizations and businesses to promote the importance of being prepared for all types of hazards to individuals, families and communities in the Great Lakes State;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 2012 as Preparedness Month in Michigan.
