September 17 through September 23, 2012: Pollution Prevention Week

WHEREAS, Michigan's environment and natural resources are important to residents and visitors alike who enjoy biking, swimming, boating, hunting, fishing and touring the Great Lakes State; and,


WHEREAS, by focusing on pollution prevention, Michigan can become a center for businesses that are more efficient, competitive and pollution-free, and make protecting public health and maintaining Michigan's natural environment a priority; and,


WHEREAS, citizens can prevent pollution by reducing waste and use of toxic substances, reusing materials and recycling; this will improve our communities and preserve the state's natural resources for future generations; and,


WHEREAS, during this week, we join with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to raise awareness of the importance of pollution prevention; we encourage Michigan citizens to meet the challenges of maintaining prosperous communities, a healthy environment, efficient government and globally competitive business through pollution prevention;  


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Monday, September 17 through Sunday, September 23, 2012 as Pollution Prevention Week in Michigan.
