Friday, September 28, 2012: Michigan Steel Day

WHEREAS, nationally, the structural steel industry employs more than 185,000 workers at firms that provide structural products for commercial, industrial and infra-structure developments; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2011, more than 5 million tons of structural steel was produced, fabricated and raised in the United States; and,

   

WHEREAS, the production of nearly all structural steel in the United States is comprised of recycled cars, appliances and roadside recycling waste, resulting in an average recycling content of 93 percent and a recycling rate of 98 percent; and,

 

WHEREAS, on this day, we join with Douglas Steel Fabricating Corp. and many others within our nation's steel industry to encourage citizens to recognize the economic contributions of the steel industry in Michigan and throughout the United States; 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Friday, September 28, 2012 as Michigan Steel Day.
