February 2016: Cooperative Education and Internship Month
WHEREAS, cooperative education and internships are critical tools to retaining bright, young talent in Michigan as they help students gain competitive occupational skills by linking career instruction with supervised training and experience on the job; and,
WHEREAS, cooperative education and internships benefit students by encouraging career exploration, highlighting employment opportunities in Michigan and allowing students to gain necessary skills that will enable an easier transition from school to the workplace; and,
WHEREAS, cooperative education and internships help motivate students to stay in school and they increase workplace productivity by promoting student reasoning and teamwork; and,
WHEREAS, during this month we join with The Michigan Career Educator and Employer Alliance to encourage schools, colleges and employers to collaborate and become more involved in expanding the educational opportunities available to Michigan’s talent;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim February 2016 as Cooperative Education and Internship Month in Michigan.
