November 17, 2016: Women in Apprenticeship Day

WHEREAS, it is a great privilege to recognize the Michigan Chapters of the National Association of Women in Construction of Lansing, Detroit, Grand Rapids and Battle Creek-Kalamazoo.  They have distinguished themselves for more than 40 years as the voice of women working in construction and the United States Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship which has distinguished itself for 75 years in its oversight and expansion of apprenticeships in Michigan and across the country to earn an agreeable wage while learning skills necessary to succeed in high-demand careers; and,

WHEREAS,  The Michigan Chapters of the National Association of Women in Construction have helped to encourage and bring success to all women working in the construction industry, including tradeswomen, through community development and educational programs that promote and support women working in the construction trades in conjunction with oversight from the United States Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship; and,

WHEREAS, the construction communities in the state, represented by the four Michigan Chapters of the National Association of Women in Construction and the United States Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship have been a driving force in fostering community outreach and a positive vision of the future through innovative programs focused on women of all ages; and,

WHEREAS, The Michigan Chapters of the National Association of Women in Construction and the United States Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship in a cooperative spirit have sought to achieve successful results for women working in the construction trades;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 17, 2016 as Women in Apprenticeship Day in Michigan.
