February 1-7, 2017: Enrolled Agent Week
WHEREAS, the enrolled agent profession dates back to 1884 when, after questionable claims had been presented for Civil War losses, Congress acted to regulate persons who represented citizens in their dealings with the U.S. Treasury Department; and,
WHEREAS, the enrolled agent has been an important asset to both the Michigan taxpayers and to the Michigan Department of Treasury; and,
WHEREAS, enrolled agents assist taxpayers with issues from the annual compliance filing of their tax return to more complex issues of Audit, Liens, Levy, Appeals and Collections; and,
WHEREAS, enrolled agents are the only federally licensed tax professionals whose credentials rely exclusively on a knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service to assist in resolving tax issues;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim February 1-7, 2017 as Enrolled Agent Week in Michigan.
