April 30, 2017: Celebration of Giving and Volunteering Day

WHEREAS, Michigan communities can positively reflect and recognize charitable giving, volunteering and service that helps to build stronger communities across our great state; and,

WHEREAS, we recognize that volunteers are a valuable resource that enhances and improves our state’s ability to provide efficient and effective services to our communities and generate a meaningful and positive difference; and,

WHEREAS, we commend service members past and present who serve our communities in both their personal and professional lives, to the colleges who make service and service-learning  a part of the everyday campus experience, and we are grateful for the diverse range of committed volunteers across the state; and,

WHEREAS, we value the time, dedication, services and gifts provided by volunteers throughout the entire year. Volunteers create a sense of cohesion and solidarity within Michigan communities.

WHEREAS, we acknowledge that humanitarian efforts put in action by volunteering build social capital, converting individual action into collective action directed toward a positive social outcome, which in turn builds a better Michigan;

NOW THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 30, 2017 as Celebration of Giving and Volunteering Day in Michigan.
