May 1, 2017: Mollaret's Meningitis Awareness Day

WHEREAS, Mollaret’s Meningitis is a condition that causes recurring viral meningitis; and,

WHEREAS, much of the public is unaware of Mollaret’s Meningitis, including many medical professionals; and,

WHEREAS, families struggle to educate medical teams and are often the only common thread between medical professionals; and,

WHEREAS, funding of research into causes and treatment of Mollaret’s Meningitis is scarce and further research is needed to create more consistent diagnostic criteria; and,

WHEREAS, Mollaret’s Meningitis Awareness Day provides an opportunity for families whose lives have been affected to honor dedicated health professionals, and to meet others and know they are not alone; and,

WHEREAS, this day will also provide the opportunity to share experience and information with the public and the media, in order to raise public awareness about Mollaret’s Meningitis;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2017 as Mollaret’s Meningitis Awareness Day in Michigan.
