September 6-10, 2017: Marine Week
WHEREAS, the United States Marine Corps has protected citizens and guarded their freedom for the past 242 years; and,
WHEREAS, the term “Marine” has been associated with courage and military efficiency since its creation on November 10, 1775, in Philadelphia; and,
WHEREAS, the annual community event, Marine Week, will be hosted in Detroit as a celebration of “Community, Country and Corps” that will showcase the history, capabilities, pride and professionalism of the Marine Corps, as well as honor the service and sacrifice of Marines and their families;
WHEREAS, more than 700 Marines will visit the Motor City from Sept. 6-10, 2017, allowing Michiganders in and around metro Detroit the opportunity to interact with the heroes who serve and protect our nation while participating in a variety of free and public ceremonies and events and community outreach initiatives held at locations in and around downtown Detroit;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 6-10, 2017 as Marine Week in Michigan.
