Governor Engler announced today that he has accepted the resignation of Department of Management and Budget Director Janet E. Phipps effective February 21.

"Janet has led DMB through its most comprehensive strategic planning initiative, emphasizing the importance of adding value to products and services and improved customer service and satisfaction within the public sector," said Governor Engler. "Her dedication to public service is admirable and I wish her well in her endeavors."

As director, Phipps was responsible for overseeing the interdepartmental service aspect of the Department of Management and Budget, which included providing systems development, property management, capital facility development, procurement, retirement, employee benefits programs, and office support services to state agencies.

"It was a difficult decision as I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent at DMB and value the opportunity to work with people who care so much about the quality of service that is being delivered, which only made my job easier," said Phipps. "I have been and always will be proud to have been associated with the Michigan Department of Management and Budget."

Phipps' plans include returning to her family in Iowa and begin work as a Senior Consultant with IBM. Phipps has also been awarded a highly regarded Harvard fellowship through the military's Senior Service School, a year-long training program that will begin in the fall and focus on military science.
