Gov. Rick Snyder makes appointment to Public Safety Communications Interoperability Board

LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Bradley Kersten of Emmett to the Public Safety Communications Interoperability Board.

The board oversees Michigan's 800 MHz radio system and telecommunications network, which provides statewide interoperability in digital clarity to its members. It also adopts procedures governing the organization and operations of the Michigan Public Safety Communications System. Additionally, the board is responsible for advising the governor on all interoperability aspects of current and future technology in the state to ensure the public safety community is well prepared today and in the future with the emergency communications ecosystem.

“This system is vital to ensuring emergency situations are handled properly and effectively,” Snyder said. “I thank Bradley for utilizing his skills and experience on this board.”

Kersten is the director of public safety/chief of police for the Charter Township of Chesterfield, where he has served in law enforcement for nearly 30 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in public safety leadership from Baker Community College and a master’s degree in public safety emergency management from Eastern Michigan University. He will represent local emergency first responders and replace Eddie Washington.

Kersten will serve a four-year term expiring April 30, 2022.
