March 4 through March 10, 2012: Michigan Drinks Tap Water Week

WHEREAS, as home of the Great Lakes, which contain one-fifth of the world's surface freshwater, Michigan's most significant and plentiful resource is water; and,


WHEREAS, not only is water crucial for human health, but it also is essential for the health of Michigan's ecosystem; and,


WHEREAS, drinking tap water is clean, healthy and inexpensive, costing less than five cents per gallon, and is an essential part of maintaining a healthy diet; and,


WHEREAS, during this week, we encourage citizens throughout Michigan to ensure they are drinking water every day and to learn more about the benefits of drinking tap water;


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 4 through Saturday, March 10 as Michigan Drinks Tap Water Week.
