Saturday, June 30, 2012: Social Media Day

WHEREAS, social media platforms have created a vibrant community for citizens to communicate with each other, organizations and municipalities throughout the world; and,


WHEREAS, state of Michigan leadership, departments and programs have built 137 accounts on social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to actively engage constituents through innovative and effective means of messaging; and,


WHEREAS, a globally recognized event, Social Media Day allows individuals to gather, physically and virtually, to celebrate the advancements of technology, information and interaction; and,


WHEREAS, on this day, we recognize the importance of social media in government, business and education; we encourage citizens to learn more about the benefits of social media and to visit the state of Michigan social media website at;


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Saturday, June 30, 2012 as Social Media Day in Michigan.
