Friday, December 21, 2012 at 9:30 a.m.- A Moment of Silence for Sandy Hook Elementary School

WHEREAS, Friday, December 14, 2012 will forever be remembered as the day 20 precious children and six dedicated educators lost their lives in the unthinkable acts of violence at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT; and,

WHEREAS, Sandy Hook Elementary School staff, first responders and community members showed tremendous courage in the midst and aftermath of this heartbreaking event; and,

WHEREAS, as the families and friends of the victims continue to suffer and mourn the loss of their loved ones, let us join together, as a state and nation, to lend our support, thoughts and prayers; and,

WHEREAS, on this day, one week after this senseless tragedy, I urge all citizens of the Great Lakes State to remember our fallen fellow Americans with a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m.; places of worship and government buildings, which have the ability, are encouraged to ring bells 26 times during this moment to honor each life that was lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012.
