WHEREAS, pharmacists are medication experts and the most readily accessible member of the health care team, helping the public receive professional guidance in the safe and effective use of prescription and over-the-counter medications; and,
WHEREAS, pharmacy professionals play a critical role in maintaining and improving the health of Michigan’s citizens by providing professional services and education to help patients receive the most benefit from their medications and reduce health care costs; and,
WHEREAS, the demand for pharmaceutical services continues to rise due to many patients taking multiple medications, more medications being available without a prescription and the state’s population gradually aging; and,
WHEREAS, through education and experience, a pharmacist improves patient health by encouraging medication adherence, enhancing patient therapy, and detecting and preventing dangerous medication interactions; and,
WHEREAS, pharmacists empower patients to be proactive with their health by offering general health screenings for blood pressure and cholesterol levels, diabetes and other conditions, as well as providing vital immunizations to keep patients healthy and safe;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, October 20 through Saturday, October 26 as Pharmacy Week in Michigan.
